Blackpool is a Traveler’s Delight in Lancashire, England

Blackpool is a town lying on the western side of the county of Lancashire, England. You will find this fourth largest town situated next to the coast of the Irish Sea in north-west England.

Blackpool became a prominent centre of tourism for the inhabitants of northern mill towns, during the 19th century.

Blackpool is said to get its name from a ancient drainage channel, forming a black pool of water in the Irish Sea as it discharges the dark colored water into the sea. People from Blackpool are called Seasiders. This town of Lancashire grew into prominence due to the Industrial Revolution.

Visitors can travel to Blackpool from anywhere in Lancashire by the rail, flight or sea. It has three piers of which the North Pier is the largest and the oldest, followed by the Central Pier with the Big wheel and the South Pier which boasts of its very own theatre. This is the only town in the United Kingdom to have three piers.

Blackpool became a tourism hub with the mill workers of northern England, who thronged it during their holidays. It still remains the preferred tourist place among people from Glasgow. Its tourism suffered a major blow with the introduction of cheap air fare that deprived it of its tourists, yet it is a huge favorite of the English.

Blackpool has the largest number of Bed and Breakfast beds and hotels. It has a 7 mile long beach, along with indoor bowling centre and a Super bowl and a 30 lane computerized ten pin centre. Blackpool also has a multi-screen along with two cinemas, boating lakes and brass bands.

This little town of Lancashire, from the beginning of September to the beginning of November, has Blackpool illuminations when the entire five mile stretch is lit up. It also has a shopping centre called Hounds Hill. Within the town, trams run for eleven miles. The Blackpool Tower Ballroom has hosted many a dance, shows and band concerts.
