Located 42 miles to the southwest of London is Farnham, part of Surrey in the borough of Waverly. Located in this area you will find some great historical sites, a fantastic spot in past history. Many old buildings which include Farnham Castle, Moor Park House, Waverly Abbey, and Mother Ludlam's Cave.
Located in an area that has streams, river, water springs, and different soils, this location is always a favorite of man. One of the most fantastic geological features a visitor should see is the chalk that is found at North Downs, and will form the ridge that is known as Hog's Back. Located in the east of Farnham it's a fantastic site.
Settlers can be found as far back as 400, 000 years ago during the Paleolithic era. Pit dwellings and even flint knapping have been found back from the Mesolithic times too, which is 7, 000 years back. During the Bronze Age there were deposits of bronze found at Crooksbury hill.
The Iron Age in Farnham showed even more mining in the form of two boulders, named the Jock and Jenny stones. When the Roman period came around the main stay of Farnham was pottery, since the area was so rich in clay.
Saxons would settle in the area around 688, and a community came about. The Normans would invade Farnham and take control for a while in the 9th century. There are five great churches in Farnham, the first being founded in 1128.
Farnham Castle is a fabulous site and one that should be seen by all who travel to the area. Also playing a huge part during the Civil war where support was for the Parliamentarians. Yet another town that is rich with past history you will find here at Farnham. A location that has so much to offer you should really try and visit it.
