The town of Kettering is located in the central part of England in Northamptonshire. The towns history, traces to the earlier settlement in history, of the Roman British. Within the 17th century, Kettering became a large producer for woolen cloth, but later grew into a shoe and boot manufacture in the 91th century. Now many of the shoes that they make are hand made.

At one time the town was known for its non-conformism values. Later in 1913, the gallery was build and became the largest within the area of Northamptonshire. The gallery was made to commemorate one of their famous resident, Sir Alfred East RA. Presently, the gallery has a variety of different artists paintings, as well as owning what is known as one of the largest collections of Sir Alfred's paintings in the world.

There are many things to see, while in Kettering. Some of the most prominant things are the Wicksteed Park, which is located on Barton Road. The park, Edward Wicksteed established in 1916. Currently it is one of the oldest of amusement parks in the country.

Currently, the same playground equipment manufacture that Edward Wickstead developed, makes equipment still to this day. The park is on 147 acres of land and lakes and has many rides to please those of all ages. There are many attractive gardens, along with paddling pools, and an aviary, and area for younger children to use free.

While you are visiting, you may want to check out the Market place of Kettering. During Wednesdays they sell mostly second hand antiques and Fridays and Saturdays are devoted to general goods. Another place to visit, is the Rushton Triangular Lodge.

It is known as one of Northhamtonshire's weirdest building and was built in the 1590's. There are three sides to it, as well as three floors and three windows on every floor. Sir Thomas Tresham had the building built as a devout catholic at a time it was banned. The building represents the holy trinity, with everything in threes and was a secret way to demonstrate his faith.

Kettering holds many secrets to be found. It is a cultural area with aesthetic beauty and more. It is a town that holds a little everything for everyone.

By: Simon Haughtone
